Victoria Wine Society

The Victoria Wine Society is an independent, not-for-profit tasting group that meets six times per year. Members range from beginners to collectors, as well as people in the wine trade. Most tastings, which include bread and cheese, are presented in a sit-down, classroom format with guest speakers. We also do some stand-up, reception-style tastings that are often conducted "blind," with the wine identities unveiled at the end of the event. Two tastings held at Brasserie L'ecole--the midsummer Champagne and Sparkling Wine event, and the finale--feature food prepared by Chef Sean Brennan.

The topics for tastings range from regions--like new Bordeaux releases, or the wines of Piedmont--to international comparisons of single varietals, like Riesling or shiraz. We try to consider market availability of the wines when selecting the line-up, however we appreciate and consider any opportunity to try wines that have been cellared that fit the tasting.

Tastings range in price from $30 to $60, or more, and are based on the cost of the wines selected for the event. Though all tastings are open to the public, members receive a $10 discount off the price of each event. Annual membership is $25 per person, or $35 per couple.

Events are held Monday evenings at 7 pm, except where noted. The tentative schedule for 2010/2011 is:

Sept 27 – Australia
Oct 25 – Bordeaux
Nov 22 – Best of BC
Feb 27 – Tuscany double-header season finale (Sunday)
